Understand the roots. Master the hits. Find your style.
Popping Foundations: From Funk to Freestyle is a beginner-friendly course by Mihir Karelia aka Mik62, a Popping legend and pioneer from India, designed to give you a strong foundation in the culture, history, music, movement and freestyle of Popping. The course begins by exploring what Popping is, followed by an introduction to its history and pioneers. You will also discover the roots of Funk and Funk music and understand their connection to the dance form. You will then develop your Popping movement vocabulary through foundational techniques including Forearm Pop, Biceps Pop, Chest Pop, Core Pop, Triceps Pop, Leg Pop and Back Pop. From there, you will learn how to combine these movements into combinations, apply them through a Popping choreography, and approach freestyle using your foundations and musical understanding. By the end of the course, you will have a deeper understanding of where Popping comes from, how Funk music influences the style, how to execute foundational pops with control, and how to begin developing your own Popping expression and freestyle.
